In the infamous Delhi Public School (DPS) MMS-scandal of the year 2004, a DPS girl was caught on a mobile phone camera having sex with one of her classmates. This MMS was then widely circulated on the internet. Director Anurag Kashyap portrays this DPS MMS-scandal in his new film Dev D, which is a modern take on the legendary movie Devdas. Abhay Deol plays the lead role, while Kalki Koechlin plays the character of Chandramukhi. Mahi Gill essays the role of Paro in the film.
In the real DPS MMS-scandal, the disgraced girl had been sent abroad by her traumatised parents after the incident became public.
In the film Dev D, however, the character Liny (played by Kalki Koechlin) is abandoned by her family members. Liny is shown to be a college student during the day and is a high class call-girl by night, in the film Dev D. Thus, she is shown to be the modern day Chandramukhi in the new age interpretation of writer Sarat Chandra's Devdas classic novel.
